The 49 Capital Cities of Europe (Map Included)

With Europe being my home, I am all too familiar with its capital cities and have been to some of them, too! If you are visiting Europe, don’t just rely on the capitals, though, as you may be missing out on an amazing journey.

A common mistake that people make is thinking Istanbul is the capital of Turkey. Or Zurich is the capital of Switzerland. Watch out for these capital cities people commonly get wrong!

Capital cities of Europe list

Here is an alphabetical list of the countries in Europe and their capitals. We have also included some transcontinental countries, which are countries located in more than one continent.

“Geopolitically” European cities

The following cities are located in Asia, but they are geopolitically connected to Europe. I haven’t included them in the above list due to their location on the map! However, they are culturally, historically, and politically tied to Europe in many ways.
