Asia is the largest and most populous continent in the world. It consists of 50 countries and partially recognized states in this list, including 48 UN member states, the State of Palestine and Taiwan.
Although there are 50 countries in the list, there are 51 capital cities in total because Sri Lanka has two capitals: Colombo (commercial) and Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte (administrative).
Several countries included in this list are transcontinental, meaning they are located in more than one continent. These countries are generally considered part of Asia for geographical, political or cultural reasons.
